Sure, this church is big and grandiose, but it has no interest whatsoever in helping the community and spreading goodness. I have never seen any secular-friendly events held by the church, nor any sort of drives to help the less fortunate. It's a shame, because this church has the size and power do so some really great things for our community. Instead, it only chooses to brainwash and reaffirm Christians of their beliefs, and literally nothing more. I feel that, if Yahweh and Jesus really existed, they would be ashamed of how wasteful this church is.

Excellent, thoughtful, well-prepared preaching. Very impressed by the time Mark puts into sermon preparation and the conversational style of preaching that keeps me mentally engaged and focuses my heart on God's word.

At the same time, as with most mega churches, the church is utterly dyslexic in creating community. The template of plugging new members into existing small groups and hoping it works out is a failing idea on so many levels. We have been members for over a year and were "interviewed" for a small group that we continue to attend. While our small group is fine (we do have a few things in common with some of the other members) we find ourselves yearning to meet other people in different age demographics than our own.

Often in church Mark implores us to not simply walk out and go home afterwards but to mingle and connect. Fine but how? Just walk up to random people? I've done that some but it isn't easy. Having coffee in the lobby is nice but cannot be expected to substitute for intentional community.

How about breaking the church down to communities that meet after church? Kind've like Sunday School except geared towards connecting people.

Probably it would involve 50-100 people sitting at round tables in a large room. People could sit at different tables each week if they wish but it would help in meeting new people and connecting. Have a devotional or short Bible lesson but keep the goal of that hour to connecting people and creating true community.

Also we have been contacted by an elder zero times since we have been members which is probably related to the church growing quickly without the infrastructure needed to maintain community.

Hoping the church decides to get intentional about community and put into practice the ideas that are so eloquently spoken from the pulpit.

  • Very solid Bibical teaching. Excellent pastors and programs. The church is very mission minded and gives a large percentage of money donated away to excellent causes, particularly to people that have never heard of Jesus. Bravo! For my personal preference, most of the teachers lean a bit too far toward the Calvinistic doctrine. That is just my personal 'preference' from studying the Scriptures. The lead Pastor nonetheless handles the friction between the two quite well. Listen to the Romans series, especially ch 7,8,9. College Park takes the Word serious. It is a big church with a lot of offer and ways to get invloved. Since its big it does take intentional initiative to get connected, like all big ones.

  • Our church home for 17 years. Solid Bible preaching and a warm community with lots of ways to get involved and serve. If it feels too big, I cannot recommend getting involved in a small group highly enough!

  • A big church that purposely strives to make things smaller for attendees. Igniting a passion to follow Jesus!
