Love the atmosphere! Took my Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University here:) everyone was very welcoming.... even though I wasn't an actual church member. Highly recommended!

I got saved here. At one point I loved it. It was in the 1990's when Pastor Cox was still running the show. It is a Church of God out of Anderson, IN. It would be nice if churches would come up with another name, to eliminate this confusion, but this church movement has been around the 1800's. Pastor Cox called me up at my job one day and asked me if I'd speak about my salvation experience in front of the congregation. I agreed. I was a baby Christian and very naive. Pastor Cox asked me if I had been agnostic, and I said "Yes." That was all we discussed. The Sunday came and he started asking me questions that did not pertain to my lived experience. I couldn't follow his leading and I had 100s of people staring at me, during 2 services. Then at the 3rd one I he just handed me the microphone. It was very scary and embarrassing. There were good things Pastor Cox did, but this congregation loves money and the truth doesn't seem as important. Pastor Cox got motivated once to build on a building to store musical equipment and to expand the creative arts ministry. There is now a Cox Wing. After the idea for this additional building was approved by the church their had to be a way to pay for it. We where exhorted to pledge to give money behind our normal tithes. We were given pledge cards. I think they can present the pledges to a bank and use that as collateral to get a loan. I'm not sure. I didn't like the idea from the get go. I didn't think the building was necessary. One Sunday I paid my bi-weekly tithe, since was paid that way. The next Sunday, instead of passing a collection plate, Pastor Cox had ushers stand up front holding collection plates. We were told to bring to the front of the church our pledge cards and our tithes. Pastor Cox was using this to pressure us into pledging to pay to build this building.

Great church; great community.
I'm writing my review more than anything to counter the negative review...for multiple reasons. First off, the pastor that he's talking about has been gone from the church for over 12 years. That's how long my family and I have gone there. Furthermore, I've never heard anything like this about Pastor Cox, and have never seen this technique that the gentleman speaks of.
It's a heartfelt place with elders that are prayerful in their decision making and a pastoral staff that listens to the congregation and is authentic.
Is it perfect? No. It's comprised of flawed people...but we get that if we strive to serve those around us and listen to the whispers of the Holy Spirit, we can get closer to Jesus while taking light into the dark world. I'm glad that I go to C@tC.Added December 26, 2016 by Ryan D
